During Illumination Week, from 1 to 9 September (except Sunday, 3 September), you’ll have the opportunity to admire the beautiful windmills in all their glory as they are charmingly illuminated at night. The illuminated windmills bring the history and culture of Kinderdijk to life in a unique way, offering you an unforgettable experience.
This year we again have a special program scheduled for the evening hours. See the overview below:
Starting from September 2 (except for Sunday, September 3), every evening you have the opportunity to take an enchanting cruise along the illuminated windmills and enjoy the serene beauty of the surroundings. You can easily order tickets online, ensuring you a guaranteed spot on board! Additionally, the Kinderdijk-cafe and Giftshop will be open on these evenings, offering delicious treats and delightful souvenirs.
Ticket Tourboat
On Wednesday, we are organizing a unique social evening starting from 6 PM around the Visitor Center. An evening full of fun with delicious food and drinks, including locally brewed beers from Kinderdijkse Kater.
On Friday, the 35th edition of the Molenmarkt (Windmill Market) will take place in the village center of Kinderdijk from 4 PM to 10 PM.
For visitors who wish to attend the Illumination Week, we advise reserving tickets well in advance, as the number of seats on the tour boat are limited.
In the evening hours, the shuttle buses between Alblasserdam and Kinderdijk do not operate, so parking is available from 5 PM at the Royal IHC parking area. For people with disabilities, there is a (paid) parking space available at the Visitor Center in Kinderdijk.
