Conclusion of a special year: 25 years of UNESCO Kinderdijk

On December 6th, we will conclude a year filled with festivities to celebrate our 25th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is a milestone we want to share with everyone, and that’s why we invite you and your loved ones to join us for a day full of history and culture. The best part? It’s all free!

 

 

 

What can I do?

Immerse yourself in a world of water, wind, and determination. For over 700 years, the dikes, mills, and pumping stations of Kinderdijk have kept the land dry. Step on board our tour boat and be guided through this historical landscape. Enter the museum mills and discover the personal stories of the millers who breathe life into this beautiful place.

You are warmly welcome between 10.30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Read here all the possibilities to travel to Kinderdijk in style.

 

Guided tours

Explore the history and culture of UNESCO World Heritage Kinderdijk with a local guide. The guide will take you on a journey through time, revealing the ingenious techniques used to preserve this unique heritage.

Two guided tours are available, one at 11 a.m. led by an English-speaking guide, and the other at 1 p.m. led by a Dutch-speaking guide.

What to expect:

  • An expert and local guide providing insight into the rich history and culture
  • Visit to an 18th-century mill where you can experience the mighty wooden machinery yourself
  • Explanation about the ingenious techniques used for heritage preservation
