The bronze sculpture ‘Beatrice’s Cradle’, located in the water in front of the Wisboom Pumping Station, will be decorated in a special way, especially for this holiday. The story behind Beatrice’s Cradle dates back to the St. Elizabeth’s Flood of 1421. According to legend, during a great storm, a baby in a cradle ended up in the water and was miraculously saved by a cat that kept the floating cradle balanced. This sculpture is a tribute to the resilience and survival of the Dutch people in the battle against the water and is an initiative of Foundation ‘Stichting Wiegje Beatrijs Kinderdijk‘.
The decoration of Beatrice’s Cradle can also be admired on Sunday, April 28.
Saturday and Sunday in orange atmospheres
In addition to the decorated Beatrice’s Cradle, various visitor locations in Kinderdijk UNESCO World Heritage will turn orange. Visitors can also enjoy a delicious orange tompouce (a typical Dutch pastry for King’s Day) at the Kinderdijk café (Nederwaard 1b) and at the Kinderdijk Kiosk (Molenstraat 236) on April 27th.
