Craftsmen's Day

UNESCO World Heritage Kinderdijk is organizing a delightful Craftmen’s Day on Saturday, May 11th. A day filled with traditional crafts that the visitor can experience firsthand! A unique opportunity to travel back in time. It promises to be a day full of cultural heritage and authentic activities.

On this special day, visitors will be immersed in the rich history of Kinderdijk. Our world Heritage site will be transformed into an environment where visitors can admire various artisanal activities. These crafts played an important role in the past.

Craftsmen will be present on this day to show visitors the intricacies of their craft and inspire them with their skills. From dough being formed into delicious treats to the craft of spinning and knitting fabrics. Additionally, we cannot forget the most important craft of Kinderdijk: milling. All these ancient crafts offer a glimpse into the rich history of this area.

Visit Museum Mill Overwaard

Museum Mill Overwaard will be open to our visitors for a one-time opportunity. Visitors have the opportunity to explore this mill from the inside. An experienced miller will be present on the premises, who, together with a guide, will share his knowledge and expertise about the history and operation of the mill.

Visitors can also admire the old forge and engine room at the Wisboom pumping station. A blacksmith will be here to give demonstrations of traditional blacksmithing. At the same time, visitors will have the chance to see the engine room in operation, where the impressive flywheels turn and they can experience the process of water management and pumping.
