Craftsmen's Day

Saturday, October 26, is all about traditional crafts that you can experience firsthand! This is the perfect opportunity to travel back in time and immerse yourself in the rich history of craftsmanship and culture. Enjoy various activities and discover the skills that have been passed down through generations.

On this special day, you’ll be immersed in the rich history of Kinderdijk. Our World Heritage Site transforms into a vibrant setting where you can admire a variety of traditional craft activities.

At Museum Mill Nederwaard, you can witness the art of fishing, watch how eels are smoked, and enjoy delicious ham and burgers prepared with a smoker. A miller will also be hard at work, passionately explaining his craft and the centuries-old techniques he uses to keep the windmill running.

There’s plenty for children to do at Museum Mill Blokweer! If the weather is dry, they can fold little windmills, play shuffleboard, and try rope splicing. Pancakes will be made, and there will be a scavenger hunt to join. Here too, a miller will be working, teaching you more about windmill technology.

At the Wisboom Pumping Station, you can admire the old forge and the engine room. A blacksmith will be present to demonstrate traditional forging, skillfully shaping glowing metal. At the same time, you’ll have the chance to see the engine room in action, with its impressive flywheels spinning. This offers an unique opportunity to experience the fascinating process of water management and pumping up close.
