Program Illumination Week

We proudly announce the 2024 edition of the Illumination Week, an annual recurring event that immerses visitors in the enchanting beauty of our historical windmills.

During the Illumination Week from September 2 to 7, you have the opportunity to admire the windmills in their full glory as they are beautifully illuminated in the evenings. The illuminated windmills bring the history and culture of Kinderdijk to life in a unique way, offering an unforgettable experience.

A special program is planned for the evenings. See the schedule below:

2 – 7 september

From Monday to Saturday, you can enjoy an enchanting evening boat tour along the illuminated windmills. After your boat tour, you can visit one of our food trucks on the terrace of the Visitor Center for a refreshing drink or a delicious snack.

 

On Wednesday, September 4, the local brewery will be serving refreshing Kinderdijkse Kater beers.

 

From Wednesday to Saturday, Museummolen Nederwaard will also be open in the evening.

September 4, 6 & 7

Experience the illuminated windmills from the water with a well-filled glass in your hand and good company around you. During a one-hour boat tour on the Nederwaard basin, you can enjoy the beautiful view and culinary delights.

6 September

On Friday, the traditional Molenmarkt will take place in the village center of Kinderdijk from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

7 September

The Illumination Week will conclude with a musical finale around the terrace of the visitor center! Don’t miss this festive closing event, where music, atmosphere, and company come together to wrap up Illumination Week in a special way.

For visitors who wish to attend the Illumination Week, we advise reserving tickets well in advance, as the number of seats on the tour boat are limited.

 

Parking

In the evening hours, the shuttle buses between Alblasserdam and Kinderdijk do not operate, so parking is available from 5 PM at the Royal IHC parking area. For people with disabilities, there is a (paid) parking space available at the Visitor Center in Kinderdijk.
