From September 1 to September 9 (excluding Sunday, September 3), our windmills are in the spotlight during the enchanting Illumination Week. Come daydream in a Dutch fairytale landscape, gazing at the sparkling reflection of our illuminated windmills on the water.
During the Illumination Week, the windmills light up as beacons in the darkness, as we literally put all nineteen of them in the spotlight. It’s a fantastic opportunity for photographers to capture unique shots. However, it’s also well worth it for all other visitors to come and experience the atmosphere because such a magnificent spectacle is not seen or experienced anywhere else in the world. Below is an overview of the activities during the Illumination Week 2023.
WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 6
This delightful social evening is a treat for your taste buds and is filled with delicious food, enjoyable conversations, and new flavor adventures. Among others, the local Kinderdijkse Kater provides a refreshing surprise. You are warmly invited to join us at the Kinderdijk-Café from 6:00 PM. Come hungry and leave satisfied!

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 8
Discover the charm of the 35th edition of the traditional Mill Market in the village center of Kinderdijk. You are warmly invited between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Conclude your evening with a boat tour along the illuminated windmills of Kinderdijk.

The Kinderdijk-café in the Visitors’ Center is open every evening until 10:30 PM and even until 11:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays! Start your visit to the illuminated windmills with a cup of coffee or tea and end with a drink and a snack.
On Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, the café is open from 10:00 AM until 5:30 PM and reopens at 7:45 PM. On Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, the café is open all day.
